I Can't Get Enough of the Melodrama!!

Since beginning "Aurora," I've become consumed with a need to watch every telenovela with a plot that looks even semi-interesting. I've realized, through the inspiration this class has given me to watch these shows, that I am obsessed with the idea of a fast-paced and relatively unpredictable plot. The slow-burn of American-made shows starts to get pretty boring at some point, so I am immensely grateful to have been introduced to melodramas outside of "Jane the Virgin."

"Aurora" hooked me with its plot twists and engaging character relationships, like the father and the son being in love with the same girl who was frozen for 20 years. I would pay a large sum of money to live in the minds of the writers of that storyline for just one day. Telenovelas and other melodramas are creative in a way that I cannot explain to anyone who hasn't watched one. It's true that, once you enter the world of melodrama, you can't escape it. I've already started watching "Yo soy Betty, la fea" so I have a telenovela to watch once I finish "Aurora." I can't get enough of the drama!

Overall, I have absolutely no regrets in selecting this course as my first year odyssey. While melodramas themselves are exciting to watch, being able to understand what goes into the production and writing of these hit shows is almost more exciting to witness. It has inspired me to research more on what it would be like to work on shows like these, as I know I would love to have a job in the future that contributes to such an interesting concept. I can't wait to delve even deeper into the topic of melodramas and I'm looking forward to watching more shows from places all over the world, as shows tend to connect people in ways that trumps a language barrier.
